Application Process
There are two steps to application process to become a member of Karis Community:
- The applicant meets with the Executive Director or the Program Assistant for an interview.
- If it is determined that the Empowerment Program at Karis is a good fit for the applicant and for the community, the applicant is invited to attend an applicant dinner. Dinners are held on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 5:45 p.m. and are hosted by a current community member. At dinner, the applicant has the opportunity to socialize with current community members. Following dinner, the current residents ask the applicant a series of pre-determined questions to gain a better understanding of the applicant. The applicant then has an opportunity to ask the current residents any questions that have arisen after the initial interview. The host will then escort the applicant to the door and ask them to call the following day after 10:00 am to inquire about the results. The host then returns to the dining room and facilitates a discussion amongst the community which culminates in the community deciding by vote if they think the applicant would be appropriate for Karis.
